Dr. Owaraganise Asiphas grew up herding cows in rural Uganda and running barefoot to his school, about 6 miles away. Though his parents never completed formal education, they encouraged him and supported his studies. Asiphas realized a need in his community after his father fell sick and there was only one specialist surgeon in his region. Asiphas has since gotten his degree in internal medicine and coordinated a community research trial testing new delivery models of care for chronic diseases. He has now returned to school to become an OBGYN in order to meet the needs of his community.
